
To: CrossFit Thump Family
To you, the athlete at Crossfit Thump, I have written this letter as means to introduce you to the training programming that you will experience. CrossFit is the combination of three disciplines: cardiovascular endurance, gymnastics and Weightlifting. The programming at Thump will touch on all three disciplines.
While the Olympic Weightlifting may have been glossed over in the past, in other CrossFit programs, here it will be implemented with emphasis. The Weightlifting I speak of is that which is performed in competition in the Olympic games and used be trainers of many disciplines to develop speed, power, and coordination in athletes. It includes the movements known as the Snatch, and Clean and Jerk along with accessory movements associated with these lifts. We will constantly and consistently review the Olympic Lifts, stressing technique and safety. A solid, well-rounded technique is required for a safe and dynamic lift. We will always stress safety at CrossFit Thump, whether it is a gymnastic movement or that of Weightlifting.
The programming will be geared towards improving you in the physical skills required by CrossFit. We will be learning skills and techniques that are necessary for balance, agility, and coordination. The idea is to provide you with the proper stimulus to drive the adaptations to improve yourselves in order to reach your fitness goals. One of the wonderful things about CrossFit is its wide variety of exercises to provide the body with the needed stimulus to get results. While you find yourself breezing through a movement one day the next you may be struggling to grasp a movement that your teammate is finding easy.
All I ask from you is that you do not get frustrated and that you do not give up on me. I want to develop a fun atmosphere in the classes but at the same time ask for discipline in a way that you give me your best effort. I want a culture of hard work to be present from the very beginning and that means it must come from you, the core of what will be our CrossFit family at Thump. I encourage you to be friendly and supportive of the team and family you have around you here. We start the WOD’s as a team and make sure everyone else works through the end. Encourage each other, support each other and most importantly have fun and enjoy the workouts. I will give you my best and in return I ask you for high intensity and a desire to want to work hard. I encourage those interested to compete in teams or as individuals in upcoming CrossFit competitions.
Remember that the programming is designed to improve you as an athlete as well as to give you a great workout. I want you to also learn new skills and techniques. I am excited to continue developing a CrossFit family at our Box at Thump; I know we have a great nucleus of fun and dedicated people. I thank you for the chance you are giving me to provide you with a fun and effective means of training your fitness.
